Brief History: Commodore Abraham Wipple originally named the town Navy. He was the former Commander-in-chief of the Continental Navy. In 1825 the VT legislature decided to change the town name from Navy to Charleston.
General Area Information: Charleston is made of up East and West Charleston. Routes 105 as well as the Clyde River connect them. Charleston is just a few miles east of Derby Center, which makes it easily accessible. Echo Lake is a gorgeous, clean hillside lake that is known for great fishing and tranquility.
Attractions: The Clyde River,Northwoods Stewardship Center, Echo Lake.
Recreational Activities: Snowshoeing, x-country skiing, snowmobiling, biking, hiking,swimming, kayaking, and boating.
